Antimicrobial Activities of Xanthium strumarium Ground parts Extracts
Min Young-Sil

Abstract
Objective£ºThis study was conducted to investigate the antimicrobial activities of Xanthium strumarium ground parts extracts.

Methods£ºAntimicrobial activities of Xanthium strumarium ground parts extracted with hot water were investigated. Cell viability was examined to measure ethanol tolerance. Cells (1?2 x107) were suspended in 67mM KH2PO4 (pH4.5) and treated with various concentrations of ethanol at 30¡ÆC for appropriate periods of time. Then, aliquots were spread on YPD agar plates and incubated at 30¡ÆC for 48h. Viability was expressed as a percentage of colony-forming units compared with 0h control.

Result & Conclusion£ºThe present study indicated that ground parts extracts of Xanthium strumarium produced the antimicrobial activities and protective effect of antifungal damage with organic acid from ground parts extracts.
